A first storyline for the second edition
A proposal in 15 panels: the order the second edition could tell its argument in, built from the topics the newsroom's articles already cover. For Dinis to tear apart. Superseded: the second release candidate follows the Gen ZX frame (decision 015, storyboard 12).
superseded 15 panels · gen-z.journalist, 18 October 2026, from the survey of the newsroom's articles · book v1.0.0 is the only official version; the second edition is in release candidates (rc1 and rc2 frozen). The Guide's lines and every quote card are Dinis's published words, from the newsroom article named in the panel's note, word for word, unless the note says otherwise. The other characters' lines are the storyboard's.
Take it with you
The same storyboard in every shape it comes in. The data and its derived files are on this site; the pictures are drawn in your browser, now, by the same code as the deck (export.js, v0.1.0), from the current panel.
Put it on your page
Two lines, from any site. The script is pinned to an immutable release of the kit, so the embed draws exactly this, for as long as the page exists. How embedding works.
The panels
- 1. Generation Z Developers, again: A first storyline for the second edition, October 2026: from the fear to the workflow, in 15 panels. (cover; admin/content/storyboards/cast.json)
- 2. 2026. The fear.. Zara thinks: “AI took the jobs before I even got there.” (scene; Generation Z Developers, again, ‘The name’)
- 3. The claim the book is built on. “today anyone who can brief an agent to build something is one” (Generation Z Developers, again (newsroom, 18 October 2026), on (evidence; Generation Z Developers, again)
- 4. Including Priya. Priya says: “So I'm a developer now?” The Agent says: “Tell me what your team needs. I'll build a first version.” (scene; The citizen developer; 2018 GitHub issue #28)
- 5. What kind of developer? Where do you fit, and where do you want to?. Explorer → Villager → Town planner (spectrum; Explorer coding; Software vendors as villagers; Why I love Wardley maps)
- 6. The one advantage, 2026. Sam says: “So. Why should we hire you?” Zara says: “Let me show you my workflow, not my CV.” (scene; Hired for the workflow)
- 7. The evidence. “71% of leaders said they would rather hire a less experienced candidate with AI skills than a more experienced one without” (Microsoft and Linked (evidence; Hired for the workflow)
- 8. Act as the job you want. Tomás says: “Work for them before they hire me? Nobody will even see it.” The Guide says: “Publish anyway, because reach is not the poi (scene; Act as the job you want)
- 9. Your own newsroom: voice memo in, a checked site out. Zara says: “Here's my voice memo. Make it an article.” The Guide says: “The memo is a draft of a thought; (scene; Your own newsroom)
- 10. The handover. Sam says: “Who fixes Priya's app when it breaks?” The Guide says: “The prototype is not a mess. It is the most precise requirement the company has (scene; Who will fix your mess?)
- 11. One-way and two-way doors. The Agent says: “Shall I send it?” The Guide says: “A change you can roll back is a two-way door; the work of a release pipeline is t (scene; How cheap is it to undo?)
- 12. Why ‘a human in the loop’ is not enough. “people approve almost everything they are shown, which Anthropic measured at 93% of permission prompts” (The human in (evidence; The human in the loop)
- 13. The last part: how this book was made, as the workflow it teaches. Memo → Article → Review → Version → Published (spectrum; A website to finish the book; Short, punchy, and co-written with Claude)
- 14. When you can see the board, a bad week is a move, not a verdict.. (punchline; Two years in the opposite)
- 15. The first line on the 2018 cover: question everything. Zara says: “Including this book?” The Guide says: “Especially this book.” (scene; team/editor/briefs/book__v1.0.0__interview-01-who-is-the-reader.md, question 2)
