# Everything is connected

> What a graph is (not a diagram), the whodunit, a graph becoming a map, groups of groups, provenance, and starting anywhere. 12 panels.

Status: draft · By: gen-z.journalist, 18 October 2026, from Dinis's memo on graphs · 12 panels

*Drawn at <https://storyboards.sgit.ai/gen-z-developers/everything-is-connected/>; the data is [storyboard.json](storyboard.json), the cast [cast.json](../cast.json).*

*Every line the Guide says, and every quote card, is from the article 'Everything is connected', word for word; the build checks it. The whodunit, the forest and the provenance chain are the storyboard's illustrations.*

## 1. Everything is connected

*cover*

A graph is a network of nodes and edges. Start anywhere.

- **Zara** (point, happy)
- **Priya** (think, thinking)
- **Tomás** (stand, happy)
- **The Guide** (wave, happy)

One of the book's most fundamental ideas.

## 2. Not a diagram

*scene, setting: office*

- **Priya** (shrug, thinking) says: “A graph? Like a bar chart?”
- **The Guide** (point, happy) says: “nodes, and the edges that connect them”

Never a chart, never a figure: a network.

## 3. The whodunit: who broke the build?

*graph*

Graph: the build broke at 9:14, commit a3f, the agent's pull request, tests skipped, Tomás, on holiday, a library updated, approved in 40 seconds

The detective's board is a graph. The highlighted path is the answer: from A to B. (A made-up case.)

## 4. Zara's first job, as a graph

*graph*

Graph: Zara, a first job, work people can see, a CV, her agentic workflow, a website, AI models, cloud, electricity

Nodes and edges; positions mean nothing yet.

*Source: Everything is connected, A map is a graph with positions*

## 5. When a graph becomes a map

*scene*

- **The Guide** (point, happy) says: “a map is a graph with positioning”
- **Zara** (think, thinking)

Dinis's talk: 'Its a graph with context'; 'When a graph becomes a Map'.

## 6. The same nodes, now positioned: a Wardley map

*map*

Map: Zara, a first job, work people can see, a CV, her agentic workflow, a website, AI models, cloud, electricity

Visibility and evolution give every node a place.

## 7. Groups of groups: the abstraction layers

*graph*

Graph: sunlight, chloroplast, cell, another leaf, roots, another tree, rain

Nature as a gigantic graph: groups of groups form natural abstraction layers, which is how we think.

## 8. Fractal

*evidence*

- **The Guide** (point, happy)

> “There is no top and no bottom. There is only the altitude you happen to be looking from, and how much definition you choose to load at it.”
>
> Source: Introducing fractal semantic graphs (newsroom)

Graphs of graphs.

## 9. Provenance is a graph

*graph*

Graph: a claim in an article, the post it cites, the study, the data, another article, a rumour

Follow the edges back to the source; a chain that ends in a rumour is a finding too.

## 10. Why the edges matter

*evidence*

- **Tomás** (think, thinking)

> “A node connected to nothing is literally meaningless.”
>
> Source: The graphs books (newsroom)

Meaning comes from the connections.

## 11. Start anywhere

*scene, setting: night*

- **Zara** (shrug, worried) says: “There's so much. Where do I even start?”
- **The Guide** (stand, happy) says: “It does not matter where you start; it matters that you start.”

A graph has no front page; whatever node you start from, the edges take you to the rest.

## 12. Everything is connected. Start anywhere.

*punchline*

> **Everything is connected. Start anywhere.**

- **Zara** (arms-up, happy)
- **Priya** (stand, happy)
- **Tomás** (stand, happy)

The two halves of the chapter.
